Quick No Yeast Naan

An incredibly easy, quick, and foolproof naan recipe that creates soft and buttery naan in less than an hour! With no yeast and no baking, this is a must have and go to recipe for fresh naan!

Naan is a bread that compliments any and every dish it’s served with! It’s one of the tastiest flatbreads out there and always a crowd pleaser!

Traditional naan takes hours of wait time for the dough to rise. The end results are worth the wait of course, but you don’t always have time for it.

So to make it easier, this recipe creates fresh homemade naan in less than an hour without compromising on its delicious flavor and texture!

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • creates fresh buttery naan in less than an hour
  • no yeast so no wait time for the dough to rise and double in size
  • made quickly on a stovetop instead of using an oven
  • better than store bought and frozen pre packaged naan

Preparation and storage

The dough
The dough is made using basic ingredients and simple instructions. You just whisk the dry ingredients together and then mix in the wet ingredients. It will seem wet at first but will soften up and come together as you knead it. It should be soft and slightly tacky. You may feel like adding more flour but avoid the urge to do so until after you knead for about 5 minutes. If necessary, add 1 tsp of flour at a time but be careful not to add too much and dry it out.

Cooking the naan
Firstly, this naan cooks very quickly, about 1-2 minutes per side, so keep an eye on it to avoid over cooking and burning. Secondly, grease the pan with melted butter or ghee every time you place the naan onto it. I highly recommend using melted ghee if you have some. If not, then use a good tasting butter. It adds incredible flavor and extra softness to the naan!

Storage
If you have any leftover naan, store in an airtight container at room temperature. These taste best when they’re warm so reheat on a stovetop to enjoy.

Quick No Yeast Naan

An incredibly easy, quick, and foolproof naan recipe that creates soft and buttery naan in less than an hour! With no yeast and no baking, this is a must have and go to recipe for fresh naan!
Flavored Nice
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings 4 naans

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (260 g) all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/3 cup (85 g) plain yogurt room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) water
  • melted ghee or butter for cooking

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, add the flour, salt, and baking powder and whisk together.
  • Then add the oil, yogurt, and water. Combine to form a dough ball and knead for about 5 minutes, until it's smooth and slightly tacky. The dough will become softer and come together as you knead. After kneading, if you still feel like it’s not ready, then add 1 tsp of flour if it's too wet or 1 tsp of water if too dry. Avoid adding too much.
  • Then separate the dough into 3-4 pieces and shape each piece into a round ball. Cover and let them rest for about 10 minutes.
  • Lightly flour the work surface and roll out each piece evenly to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Heat a skillet/tortilla pan over medium heat and slightly grease with melted ghee or butter. Place the rolled dough onto it and brush the top side of the naan with some ghee/butter as well.
  • Cook for about 1 ½ – 2 minutes until bubbles form and the underside is golden brown/slightly charred. Then flip over and cook until it develops charred spots.
  • When it’s done, remove and set aside. Optionally brush with more melted butter or ghee if desired. Place naan in a tea towel lined dish or tortilla basket so that it stays warm.
  • Continue cooking the remaining naan, making sure to slightly grease the pan each time. Control the heat to ensure the pan doesn’t get too hot and cook each naan for just a few minutes until golden brown/ charred spots on both sides.
  • Enjoy warm!
